New Technologies for Language Learning
Introduction
Four instructors participated in our project, choosing two basic technologies to pilot in five different ways.  Read about each pilot below.
Wikis - Background Knowledge for Reading
In this project, the instructor had students collaboratively create a wiki to research and share background knowledge to support their reading of a graphic novel.
Wikis - Vocabulary Acquisition
In this project, the instructor had students create study pages for each vocabulary word selected by the class from their readings.
Digital Language Lab - Recording for Grammar Awareness
In this project, a grammar and writing instructor had her students record their voices in order to increase awareness of and accuracy in using past tense verbs.
Digital Language Lab - Open Vowel Sounds
In this project, the instructor had students record themselves reading a set of sentences as pre-/post- assessment of their pronunciation of open vowel sounds.
Digital Language Lab - Reading Fluency
In this project, the instructor had students practice, record and self-assess repeated oral readings of selected texts in order to build reading fluency.
